Marldon Fours 2011

With the rain holding off and the day mainly sunny and warm the 2011 Marldon Fours provided an exciting days bowling with a nail biting climax. With John Cunningham’s rink the only one in the last session with a realistic chance of beating Arthur Conway’s rink, John needed to win by one shot but although one ahead going in to the last end  superb bowling by Neil Murgatroyd’s rink denied them the victory. The draw meant John was out of the prize money and left Paignton’s Arthur Conway, Phyl Keen, Wyn Geary and Vic Veasey the outright winners.

A successful day for the Abbrook Park Club who provided the runner’s up Gordon Clark, Tom Archer, Carol Archer and Joyce Clark and the third placed team of Tony Frampton, Fred Cox, Sheila Rixon and Margartet Wakeham.

Once again the tournament was well organised by Gerry Pickard and well controlled by Umpire Derek Griffin. The visitors were kept watered and fed by an army of helpers, with great food provided by June Gibbons and her team and Sean O’Leary and the bar staff making sure the glasses were kept full.

In presenting the prizes President, Val Kendall praised the endeavour of all who made the tournament a success and thanked the Club Sponsors for their continued support.
